Semolina French Toast


           Here is a quick and easy tea time bread snack made with semolina and other ingredients. It is a vegetarian version of the Egg French toast. You can add any other veggies of your choice to make them more healthy and wholesome. 

          They can also be had for breakfast or as a lunch box meal for the kids. Enjoy them with any chutney or sauce. So check out the step by step pictorial recipe to prepare this simple & tasty delicacy.








  • 4 bread slices
  • 1/2 cup sooji (semolina)
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 tsp. ginger, grated
  • 2 green chilies, chopped
  • 1/2 cup grated carrots
  • 1 tsp. red chili flakes
  • 1/2 cup coriander stems, chopped
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp. turmeric powder
  •  yoghurt as required
  • 2 tbsp. fried onions
  • 1 tsp. garam masala powder
  • 1 tbsp. oil for tempering
  • 1 tsp. mustard seeds
  • 1/4 tsp. asafoetida
  • oil to shallow fry





          In a bowl, mix together all the above mentioned ingredients starting from sooji to garam masala. Heat 1 tbsp. oil and temper with mustard seeds and asafoetida. 

          Allow it to splutter and then pour this tempering over the semolina mix. Combine everything well into a thick batter. Keep it aside for 10-15 minutes.

          Spread 1/4 of the batter on each bread. Heat 1 tbsp, oil in a griddle / tawa and shallow fry the batter side first on a medium flame for a minute or two till it turns light golden in colour.

          Flip it over and fry the other side too. Transfer to a serving plate. Fry rest of the bread in the similar way with the semolina spread. 

          Cut them as desired and enjoy for breakfast or as a tea-time snack or with green chutney / ketchup.








                                 Mix all ingredients starting from sooji to garam masala. 




                    Heat 1 tbsp. oil & temper with mustard seeds & asafoetida. Pour this 
                    tempering on the semolina mix. Mix well into a thick batter. Keep aside 
                    for 10-15 minutes.
