Orange Flavoured Whole Wheat Bread (Microwave Recipe)

This is a basic bread recipe for everyday use, done in a microwave in the convection mode. where I have used some orange juice and orange jest to give a subtle flavour. It is a best alternative to any store bought one.

For a healthier version, I have added olive oil instead of butter and added no sugar. The juice from the orange does the job. Enjoy these freshly baked bread with some jam ,butter or as a simple toast with eggs.

  • 2 1/2 cups atta (whole wheat flour)
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. instant yeast
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1 tsp. orange zest
  • 2 tbsp. olive oil
  • flour to dust

In a bowl, mix together flour, salt and yeast. Add the oil, lemon zest and lemon juice and combine well. Knead it into a soft dough with the help of required quantity of water.

Cover and leave it to rise for 45 minutes in a warm place. (I kept it in the microwave). By now the dough will swell up.

Knead again for 2-3 minutes by wetting your hands at intervals as the dough becomes very elastic. Cover and leave again to rise for further 30 minutes.

Again knead it well for 2 minutes and transfer it into a greased and flour dusted bread pan. Leave aside for further 30 minutes to swell up.

Preheat the microwave to 210 degrees for 5-7 minutes. Place the bread pan over the lower rack and bake for 22-24 minutes.

When the surface turns light brown, cover with an aluminium foil and continue to bake. Do the toothpick test.

When done, transfer to a wire rack and allow it to cool. Cut into slices and serve as preferred or store in any container.

Mix together flour, salt and instant yeast.

Add olive oil, orange juice and orange zest.

Knead well & keep aside for 45 minutes. Knead again & let it rise
                        for a further 30 minutes.

The swelled up dough after it has rested.

Grease and flour dust the bread pan.

Transfer the dough to the pan.

Allow it to rise again for 30 minutes.

When done, take it out of the microwave.

Allow it to rest on a wire rack.

                                Cut into slices and serve.
