Custard Jelly Trifle Pudding

My favorite, this yummy Custard Jelly Trifle pudding hardly takes any time to prepare. Just a little bit of assembling, and you have a surprise dessert in front of you. Few Digestive biscuits, chopped nuts, custard and jelly are layered one over the other.

Tastes simply delicious, it is a sure hit at parties. You can always add sponge cake in place of biscuits and some chopped fruits of your choice. However, be sure to make some extra. Do check out a simple step by step pictorial recipe to prepare this amazing dessert.

  • A dozen digestive biscuits or as required
  • 500 ml. full fat milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar or to taste
  • 3 tbsp. custard powder, any flavor
  • 1/3 cup sprite or any fruit juice
  • jelly made from 1 pack
  • 2-3 tbsp. almonds & pistachios, chopped
  • pinch of saffron
  • few dry rose petals, slightly crushed

Mix the custard powder with 1/2 cup milk and keep aside.

Bring the milk and sugar to a boil. Lower the flame and simmer for 3-4 minutes.

Pour this custard mix into the boiling milk gently and keep stirring continuously till it starts getting thicker. Leave aside to cool for a while before refrigerating it.

Prepare the jelly according to the instructions given on the pack. Leave aside to cool and then refrigerate. Slice them into small cubes.

To serve, take few small glass serving bowls and line the surface with few biscuits in each of them.

Pour the sprite or orange juice over it to keep it moist. Layer with some jelly cubes and some chopped nuts.

Now layer with some of the prepared custard, followed by more of the jelly cubes.

Garnish with the remaining nuts, saffron strands and dry rose petals.  Serve chilled.

I made this pudding, using agar agar (China grass) and 3 different colored jelly crystals (orange, strawberry & grapes flavor). So go ahead and give it a try and enjoy it chilled. Do check for the step by step pictorial recipe to make this amazing dessert.

  • 3-4 different flavored jelly crystals
  • 1 tsp. rose water
  • 1/4 tsp. cardamom powder

Jelly - Make the jelly according to the instructions on the packet. (Empty the contents of the pack in each bowl. Pour required quantity of hot water in each and stir well till it dissolves).

When it comes to room temperature, refrigerate till it sets. Cut them into cubes and transfer into a container / cake tin / casserole in which the pudding will be set.

Pudding - Soak the agar agar in 1 cup water for 15 minutes. Then simmer on a low flame, stirring continuously, till it dissolves completely.

Add the milk, cardamom powder, rose water and sugar. Continue to simmer till the sugar dissolves. However, do not let it come to a boil. Switch off the flame and keep aside for 5 minutes.

Then pour it gently over the jelly crystals. Give it a tap and let it come to room temperature. Then refrigerate it for a couple of hours for it to set. Cut as desired and enjoy.

Oats & Jelly Pudding / Kheer

A new creation from my kitchen. After preparing oats pudding, I thought why not add in some jelly. So here you go. It turned out some sort of a mix-n-match dessert. So thought of sharing this delicious concoction which surprisingly, was very yummy with just the right amount of sweetness for me. It is ideal for an after-meal dessert. So go ahead and give it a try and serve them chilled.

  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1/2 packet of jelly crystals
  • 1 tsp. ghee
  • 1 tsp. sugar or to taste
  • 1/4 tsp. cardamom powder
  • few cherries to garnish
  • 1 tsp. sliced pistachios to garnish

Prepare the jelly as per the instructions. After it cools down, allow it to set in the refrigerator.

Heat the ghee in a pan and fry the oats for a minute or till you get a nice aroma. Add the milk, sugar and cardamom powder and simmer on a medium flame till it is slightly thick.

When it cools down slightly, add in the jelly and combine. Transfer into individual bowls / glasses and garnish with cherries and sliced pistachios. Chill to serve.
