Kuzhi Paniyaram are traditional South Indian breakfast, especially popular in Tamilnadu. In simple words, they are generally fried idlis or dumplings made with leftover idli / dosa batter in a mould called chetti. They are had with coconut chutney and sambar.

  • 1 cup parboiled rice
  • 1/2 cup urad dal (split black gram)
  • 1 tsp. fenugreek seeds
  • salt to taste
  • paniyaram chatti
  • oil as required

Soak the rice, dal and fenugreek seeds overnight. Grind to a batter of pouring consistency. Heat the chatti / mould and pour a tsp. of oil.

Drop spoonfuls of the batter and cook, covered till one side is done. Flip over to the other side with the help of a small spoon.

Pour another tsp. of oil and cook till light brown in colour. Serve these dumplings with coconut chutney and sambar.
