Soya Chapli Kebab

This is my version of the famous Chapli Kebab, also known as Peshawari Kebab. It is a very popular street food in Peshawar and so let me share with you this yummy Kebab made of soya granules.

Tried it for the first time and it came out just perfect. You need to take a bite of it to know what I mean. So what are you waiting for? Go ahead and give it a try by following a step by step pictorial recipe to prepare it and relish as an appetizer with some homemade chutney.

  • 1 cup soya granules (makes 4-5 kebabs)
  • 2 tbsp. whole wheat flour
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • 1 tsp. ginger-garlic, grated
  • 1-2 green chilies, chopped
  • 2-3 tbsp. coriander leaves, chopped
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp. turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp. coriander-cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp. garam masala powder
  • 1 tbsp. red chili flakes
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper powder
  • 1 tsp. lime juice
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • few tomato slices
  • oil to shallow fry

Soak the soya granules in hot water for 10 minutes. Squeeze out the water and blend till smooth. Mix with the rest of the ingredients (except tomato slices and oil).

Divide into large equal size portions. Give a shape of a patty and place a slice of tomato on each.

Shallow fry them in some oil till done on both sides, Drain on a kitchen towel and serve with any homemade chutney of your choice.
