Drumstick & Raw Mango Curry

This mango season is really a blessing for me and I am making full use of it by experimenting with raw and ripe mangoes in my cooking. Today I prepared a dry and tangy drumstick curry with raw mangoes. It can be had as a side dish with either rice or chapattis. So check out the step by step pictorial recipe to prepare it.

  • 3-4 drumstick, chopped into 2" pieces, boiled al dente
  • handful of coriander leaves along with the stalks
  • 3-4 garlic cloves
  • 2-3 green chilies
  • 1 small raw mango, chopped
  • 2-3 tbsp. oil
  • 1/2 tsp. mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp. nigella seeds
  • 1/4 tsp. asafoetida
  • 2-3 onion, chopped
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp. turmeric powder

Blend the mango, coriander leaves, green chilies and garlic into a paste. Keep aside. Heat oil in a pan and temper with mustard seeds, nigella seeds and asafoetida. Allow it to splutter.

Add the onions and fry till light brown. Now add the ground paste, turmeric powder and salt. Stir fry on a medium flame till the oil separates.

Add the drumstick and mix well. Sprinkle some water and cook, covered on a low flame for 1-2 minutes. Switch off the flame and serve with rice or chapattis.
