Semolina Bread Toast

You are looking at this yummy tea time bread snack made with semolina, some yoghurt and other ingredients. Apart from the coriander stems & leaves and other ingredients that I have used, you can also add any veggies of your choice to make them more healthy and wholesome. They can also be had for breakfast, snack or as a lunch box meal for the kids. So check out the step by step pictorial recipe to prepare this simple and tasty delicacy.

  • 4 bread slices
  • 1/2 cup sooji (semolina)
  • salt to taste
  • 1/4 tsp. turmeric powder
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 green chilies, chopped
  • 1 tsp. ginger, grated
  • 1/2 tsp. red chili flakes
  • 2 tbsp. coriander leaves, chopped
  • 2-3 tbsp. coriander stem, chopped
  • yoghurt as required
  • 1 tbsp. oil for tempering
  • 1/2 tsp. mustard seeds
  • pinch of asafoetida
  • oil to shallow fry

In a bowl, mix together all the above mentioned ingredients, starting from sooji to yoghurt, into a thick batter. Heat 1 tbsp. oil in a pan and temper with mustard seeds and asafoetida.

After it stops spluttering, pour it over the prepared batter and mix well. Spread a little of the batter on each slice of bread.

Heat a tawa / griddle and drizzle a tbsp. of oil. Shallow fry the batter side first for a minute or till it turns light golden in colour.

Then flip it over and fry the other side too. Transfer to a serving plate. Fry rest of the slices in the similar way. Cut them in half and serve them hot with green chutney / ketchup or as a tea-time snack.
