Ney Pathiri (Rice Flour Pooris - Kerala Style)

Ney Pathiri is a deep fried poori made out of rice flour, fresh grated coconut and other flavoring ingredients. They are termed as a common breakfast in Kerala (especially in the Malabar region) and are relished with any veg, or non-veg. gravy side dish. They can also be had for lunch / dinner too. So check out the step by step pictorial recipe to prepare this simple and delicious poori.

  • 1 cup rice flour
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp. coriander leaves, chopped
  • 1/2 cup fresh grated coconut
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tsp. cumin seeds
  • oil to deep fry

In a bowl, combine all the ingredients (except oil) and knead into a stiff dough by adding warm water little at a time. Cover with a wet cloth and leave aside for 15-20 minutes.

Take a little portion of the dough and spread out into a small circle, just like poori on an aluminum foil / plastic.

Heat oil and gently drop the pooris in it and fry till light brown on both sides. Drain on a kitchen towel and serve them hot with any non-veg. or veg. side dish.
