Beetroot Web Dosa (Pancakes - South Indian Style)

Here is a new way of serving dosa mixed with beetroot puree. They are not only healthy but nutritious. Serve them in a creative way by making these awesome webbed dosa with the help of a squeezer bottle. They are a real visual treat to the eyes and quite appealing too. Young and old alike will simply love this new avatar,

You can let your imaginations run wild and create various patterns on the tawa/griddle. Cook the dosa on both sides as you do your regular dosa, but a wee bit gently or your new creation will come apart. Serve them hot with coconut chutney, podi and sambar.

  • 500 gms. dosa batter
  • 1 small beetroot, boiled & pureed
  • oil to shallow fry
  • sambar and coconut chutney to serve

Mix the beetroot puree with the dosa batter and mix well . Fill in a squeezer bottle with the help of a funnel.

Heat a tawa / griddle and drizzle few drops of oil. Sprinkle some water over it. After it sizzles off, wipe clean with a tissue paper or a half cut onion. This ensures a non-stick coating.

Reduce the flame and gently squeeze the bottle over the tawa to form a webbed pattern. Drizzle some oil around the edges and over it. Cook for 2-3 minutes till one side is done.

Gently flip it over and cook the other side too. Carefully remove on a plate. Make similar webbed dosas with the remaining batter.

Each time a dosa is made, rub the hot tawa with the cut onion to ensure easy removal of the dosa. Serve them hot with sambar and coconut chutney.
