Spinach Idli (Steamed Rice cake - South Indian Cuisine)


           Idlis are steamed rice cakes that is a very common South Indian breakfast. It has become very popular all over India now. They can be made with different flavours. Do try these delicious Idlis with the goodness of spinach. They are not only healthy but also visually appealing. They can be served any time of the day along with coconut chutney and sambar.





  • 1/2 kg. Idli batter
  • 2 -3 bunches of spinach, chopped
  • oil to grease
  • coconut chutney & sambar to serve






          Clean the spinach and blanch them in hot water for 3 minutes. When cool, puree them and mix to the idli batter. 

          Pour spoonfuls into a greased idli mould and steam for 15-17  minutes (5 minutes on high flame and the remaining on low flame). Serve them with coconut chutney and sambar.
