Aloo Kasuri Methi (Potato & Dry Fenugreek Curry)


          Aloo Methi needs no intro. It is a very popular Punjabi style dry curry made of potatoes and fresh fenugreek leaves. But here is my version where I used kasuri methi (dry fenugreek leaves). It is a very quick recipe and goes very well with chapattis / any Indian bread. It is a simple and a yummy side dish which can also be relished with rice. So check out the step by step pictorial recipe to prepare this simple delicacy.








  • 2-3 potatoes, cubed & steamed
  • 3 tbsp.  kasuri methi (dry fenugreek leaves), crushed
  • 3 tbsp. oil
  • 1 tsp. butter
  • 1/2 tsp. cumin seeds
  • 1-2 bay leaves
  • 1/4 tsp. asafoetida
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 tsp. ginger, chopped
  • 1 tsp garlic, chopped
  • 1-2 green chilies, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp. chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp. turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp. roasted cumin  powder
  • 1 tsp. roasted coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp. garam masala powder
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tsp. coriander leaves, chopped








          Heat 1 tbsp. oil in a non-stick pan and sauté the steamed potatoes till they are slightly browned. Drain and keep aside.

          Heat the remaining oil and butter. Temper with cumin seeds, bay leaves and asafoetida. Sauté for a few seconds. 

          Then add the onion, ginger, garlic and green chilies. Stir fry till light brown in colour.

          Now add all the dry spices and give it a stir. Add the fried potatoes and the kasuri methi.  Mix well and sauté for 2-3 minutes.

           When done, switch off the flame and garnish with coriander leaves. Serve as a side dish with either chapattis or rice.
