Cheesy Whole Masoor Dal Soup (Red Lentils Soup with Cheese)

       

           Lentils in general is a powerhouse of proteins and fibre. It has low fat content and is good for diabetics. So here comes a healthy, yummy and a nutritious soup of whole masoor dal (red lentil) with cheese for some extra flavour. 

          It can be had as it is or with some croutons / breadsticks for a wholesome meal. Good during pregnancy and for the elderly people. Babies / kids can also partake it, minus the spices. It is a soul satisfying light meal especially when served hot during a cold wintry night. 





  • 1/2 cup whole masoor dal, soaked for an hour
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • 2 tsp. grated cheese
  • 1 tbsp. olive oil / butter
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp. turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp. sambar powder
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper powder
  • 1 tbsp. lime juice





          Heat oil and sauté the onion, garlic and curry leaves till translucent. Add the turmeric powder, salt, pepper powder and sambar powder and turn off the flame. Sauté for a few seconds.

          Add the dal and 2 cups water and pressure cook for 4-5 whistles.When cool, add the cheese and blend into a puree. Heat through and serve with a dash of lime juice.
