Chicken Momo (Steamed Dumplings - North Eastern Style)

Momos are simply delicious and very popular in Tibet, Sikkim, Bhutan and other North Eastern States. They are usually sold as street food. It is basically steamed dumplings filled with chicken or mutton mince.

For a veggie version, it can be stuffed with a mix of grated carrot, finely chopped cabbage and bell peppers. These momos are very healthy as they are steamed and can be had as snacks with some chutney. They can also be deep fried according to individual preference.

  • 2 cups maida (Plain flour)
  • 500 gms. chicken mince
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1" ginger, grated
  • 2 green chillies, chopped
  • 2-3 tbsp. coriander leaves, chopped
  • salt to taste

Knead the maida, a pinch of salt and water into a stiff dough. Keep aside for a while. Mix together all the other ingredients for the filling. Keep aside.

Make equal sized balls out of the dough. Roll each one into a disc. Place a tsp. of the filling in the centre and bring all the edges together.

Steam for 20-25 minutes in a steamer or pressure cooker (without the vent). Serve hot with soup or can be had as it is.
