Mint Paratha (Flat Bread)


          Bored with the usual Parathas ? Try this delicious and aromatic Mint Paratha and relish it with any side dish, yoghurt, butter or pickle. It is not only easy and simple to make but a very healthy and nutritious breakfast and snack item. Have it hot right out of the tawa for an unforgettable experience. They also serve as a perfect lunch box meal too. Please find below a step by step guide to preparing it.






  • 1 cup atta (whole wheat flour)
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp. turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp. ajwain (carom seeds)
  • 1/ tsp. asafoetida
  • 1 tbsp. oil
  • 1 cup mint leaves, copped & loosely packed
  • 1-2 green chilies, chopped
  • 1 tsp; ginger, grated
  • 1 tsp. roasted cumin powder
  • 1/2 cup mint leaves, chopped
  • oil to shallow fry.
  • onion rings, fresh chilies & lemon wedges to garnish


          In a bowl, combine atta, salt, turmeric powder, cumin powder, green chilies, ginger, 1 tbsp; oil and 1 cup mint leaves. Knead into a soft dough with required quantity of water. Let it rest for 15-20 minutes.

          Divide into 4 equal portions. Roll out each portion into a circle by dusting some flour. Smear some oil over the surface and sprinkle some chopped mint leaves and flour.

          Fold into a semi circle and again smear with some oil, followed by a sprinkle of mint leaves and flour.

          Fold into a triangle and roll out into a bigger shape by dusting some flour. Roll out the rest of the dough in a similar manner and keep aside.

          Heat a tawa / griddle and shallow fry the parathas one at a time by smearing some oil. Fry on both sides till light golden brown. Garnish with onion rings, chilies and lemon wedges. Serve with any side dish, yoghurt, butter or pickle.




                          Mix together atta, salt, turmeric powder, asafoetida, ginger, ajwain, cumin -
                          powder & chilies.



                          Add oil and mint leaves.



                          knead into a soft dough.



                          Roll out and smear with oil & a sprinkle of mint leaves and flour.



                          Fold into a semi circle and smear with oil & a sprinkle of mint leaves and
                          flour.



                          Fold into a triangle ..........




                          and roll out. Make similar parathas with remaining dough.



                          Serve with any side dish, accompanied with onion, chilies and lemon.
